Food Tour 2008
In October 2008 Pomegranate Tours is leading a group of students studying Food Technology to the gastronomic centre of Europe. This tour will see students spend one week in France and one week in Italy. In France students will stay in the village of Burlats , well located in SouthWest France. Here they will travel around the area visiting the caves of Roquefort , the Canal du Midi, Lautrec ,home of the famous Ail Rouge Garlic,( and of course the artist ), vineyards, food markets and much more. There will be hands on workshops in the preparation of some classic French dishes typical of the area. It is also our aim that students become educated in the properties of viticulture and gain an appreciation and understanding of the important relationship wine has with food.
The second week will be spent in the Italian region of Piemonte. In October 2008, the Salone del Gusto ( Hall of taste) will be held once again in Torino. This imposing biannual food event is the jewel in the Slowfood movements Calender of Events. For five days the students will listen to, taste from and speak with peoples who produce diverse and sustainable foods from all over the world. There will be workshops as well as social events. In addition time will be spent hunting for truffles and Cinghiale (Italian Boar) in the Piemonte forest. There is also a visit to the University of Gastronomic Sciences, the first University in the world dedicated solely to food production and related disciplines.
